Candle Tips

The first time you light your candle, burn it one hour for every inch (2.5cm) of its diameter. Basically you need to let your candle burn until the wax melts to the outside of the glass container -so for the large candles this is about 1.5 -2 hours, smaller candles about 1 hour.  You need to enusre that you will be around long enough for this process to take place.

This will allow the pool of wax to extend to the outside rim and prevent your candle from forming a "canyon" in its centre. Burning your candle this way will also set its memory. Each time you re-light the candle it will "remember" to burn out to the rim.

The best scent throw comes from burning the candle for at least one hour. The candles can be burnt for longer than 4 hours but should be monitored.

Always keep the wick trimmed to ¼ of an inch (6mm)! If you ensure the wick is trimmed each time you light your candle you will get a clean, smoke free burn.

If you notice the wick “mushrooming”, (a term used when parts of the wick burn and puff up –like a mushroom) extinguish the wick and trim it.

Keep the melt pool free of dust and debris.

Emma Green candles can be burnt for up to 4 hours at a time as they are slow burning. Just as long they are kept on an even surface and away from drafts, children and pets.

If the candle burns unevenly due to a draft, carefully push the wick with the end of a matchstick or similar to the higher side. Repeat a few times and the candle will repair itself.

Never "blow out" a candle. Blowing will spray the wax everywhere and cause the candle to smoke. The most effective way to extinguish the flame of a candle is to use a candle snuffer. If you don't own a snuffer, the best way to extinguish the candle is to place your forefinger in front of the flame before you blow. This clever trick means that the air will hit the flame from the sides instead of hitting it directly.
